New Mwambenje Living Waters CBCC Old Mwambenje Living Waters CBCC Shaping a bright future for children through provision of safe and conducive learning environment for pre-school children is one of the passions TDI has in its developmental activities. Early Childhood development “M’mera mpoyamba” is a basis of intelligence, personality, social behavior and capacity to nurture oneself of becoming responsible and productive adults for the development of communities. Recognizing the need for early childhood development is a precursor for development. TDI with support from its partner Willow Creek Community Church, supported Mwambenje Living Waters Church with a modern CBCC to enhance children’s development. Chisansu Secondary School borehole rehabilitation in progress. Osman Benga Field Facilitator for Illanga Njelengwa Zone providing borehole rehabilitation services for Ngoya Village. In an effort to continue supply of clean and safe water to communities TDI through its field staff persistently supports its 10 zones in Chitipa District (Churches, schools, villages and communities) in the maintenance and rehabilitation of functioning and non-functioning boreholes. Recent rehabilitated boreholes include Ngoya and Chisansu Secondary School boreholes. Ngoya borehole saves 68 households with a population of 327 people whereas Chisansu Secondary School borehole saves 325 students and 15 households comprised of 75 people in total serving 400 people.

TDI with support from Willow Creek continue to support communities through local churches in the Water and Sanitation Sector.  Over 100 boreholes have been drilled since 2010 across the district through this partnership. Nasato and Siyombwe are amongst the lucky church communities that received support in 2017 and 2018 respectively. Community members share pathetic stories about the water situation before boreholes were drilled in these areas. Women used to draw water from unprotected wells and water borne diseases like bilharzia, dysentery, scabies and diarrhea were the order of the day. Chisansu CBCC was birthed as a response to the closure of a nursery school which was owned by a CBO. People in the village saw the impact of the former nursery school on children in primary school. The group stated in 2010 with 11 members. The members of the Kawati savings group ministry in Namatubi Zone have been able to transform perennial challenges into opportunities. Since the inception of the program, most of the families in Namatubi Zone have constructed houses, are able to pay school fees for their children, Manage to eat six food groups, able to purchase farm inputs (fertilizer) without problems, they managed to buy domesticated animals like pigs, chicken and goats  with loans from the savings group Ministry. Under the project which was launched in 2018, 20 village natural resources committees, 3 schools and 10 churches were trained in environmental conservation and forestry management and over 100 households have been trained in construction and use of energy saving stoves. Over the 7 years of tree planting initiative about 121, 000 trees have been planted which approximately covers an area of about 24.2 square kilometers which is about 4.95% of Chisansu and Naching’anda area. The training began with grading of visions developed by churches as their 2018 ABCD assignment. After the grading of church visions, churches which have produced the visions will be trained in ABCD Vision Ministry Building. The five zones we started with were Kameme, Ilanga/Njelengwa, Ibanda/Namatubi, Township and Misuku Lower. Today, Tubepoka Development Initiative (TDI)launched 2019 tree planting season under "Planting Hope" project being spearheaded by Maria Nachilale together with local churches in Chisansu, Bukanga and Naching'anda communities. 23 VNRMCs in these areas with support from TDI have raised over 120,000 tree seedlings to be planted this year 2019. These communities used to look evergreen and beautiful with fresh air, clean water, fruits, honey ..mention it, but now all the glory is lost due to extravagant timber harvesting, wanton bush fires, you name it.
